Audience definitions
Overview
This document explains how audience definitions work within RPI and when to use each of the pre-defined audience definitions.
Audience Definitions
Audience definitions define a series of defaults for the audience, including the structure of the tables to which records are to be written when an audience instance based upon the template is run, and the metadata attributes available to the audience.
Each audience definition below represents a standard Resolution level.
The audience definitions that have been set up within Redpoint CDP (RPI SaaS deployments) are:
Customer Account BU Summary
Using the Customer Account BU (Business Unit) Summary audience definition allows you to select records based on the Customer Account ID. This audience definition uses the Customer Account Summary resolution level. If you want to send to all customers and all of their potential accounts, this would be the correct audience definition to use.
A customer could have multiple accounts within the Customer Account Summary Table, which would allow duplicate messages to be sent to a given customer.
Golden Record BU Summary
Using the Golden Record BU (Business Unit) Summary audience definition allows you to select records based on the Individual Business Unit ID. Using the Golden Record Summary audience definition allows you to select records based on the Individual Business Unit ID. This audience definition uses the Golden Record Summary resolution level. If there are multiple business units associated with a customer, then RPI will see each of those brands as unique records due to this combination.
When using this audience definition, you will be selecting unique records based on Individual ID and Business Unit. This allows a single communication to be sent based on different brands in the database.
Loyalty Account BU Summary
Using the Loyalty Account BU (Business Unit) Summary audience definition allows you to select records based on the Loyalty ID. If you want to send to all of the loyalty accounts that are available on the database, then the Loyalty Account BU Summary resolution would be the correct audience definition to use.
A customer can have multiple loyalty accounts associated to their record within the database, which would send duplicate messages to a single customer across all of their accounts.
Email BU Summary
Using the Email BU (Business Unit) Summary audience definition allows you to select records based on the Email ID field. If you want to send to all of the email addresses that are available on the database, then the Email BU Summary resolution would be the correct audience definition to use.
