Deduplications in Audiences

Overview

The purpose of deduplication (dedupe) is that when sending your offer, you want to select just one record from many potential records to avoid sending duplicate offers. For example, you want to choose just one person from a household to send print materials to.

You can manage dedupe settings at the Audience level in the audience properties or at the audience block level.

Deduplication settings in audience properties

If you want your chosen dedupe settings to apply to the entire audience, you’ll need to configure the settings at the audience property level.

To configure dedupe settings in audience properties:

  1. In RPI, open an audience in the Audience Designer.

  2. Select Properties from the toolbar.

  3. In the Deduplication section, you’ll need to configure the following fields:

    • Deduplication Level: determines the dedupe level. For example, using one record per individual, household, email, etc. The options on this dropdown are determined by the resolution level of the Audience Definition.

    • Deduplication Behavior: specifies how a single record is chosen if multiple options are available. For example, consider an audience that resolves to a Household level, but there are multiple members of the household that meet the criteria. This setting helps the system determine which person to choose. The available values are:

      • Use random sampling

      • Sample ascending using [chosen Attribute]

      • Sample descending using [chosen Attribute]

  4. Close the audience properties.

Deduplication settings in audience blocks

If you want your chosen dedupe settings to apply only to a specific audience block, you’ll need to configure the settings at the block level.

To configure dedupe settings in an audience block:

  • In RPI, open an audience in the Audience Designer.

  • Select the Configure icon (two lines with squares on them) on the block.

  • In the Deduplication section, you’ll need to configure the following fields:

    • Deduplication Level: determines the dedupe level. For example, using one record per individual, household, email, etc. The options on this dropdown are determined by the resolution level of the Audience Definition.

    • Deduplication Behavior: specifies how a single record is chosen if multiple options are available. For example, consider an audience that resolves to a Household level, but there are multiple members of the household that meet the criteria. This setting helps the system determine which person to choose. The available values are:

      • Use random sampling

      • Sample ascending using [chosen Attribute]

      • Sample descending using [chosen Attribute]

  • Select Done.
