Campaign use case: Welcome campaign

Building a Welcome campaign is a great way to get started using RPI. You can make them simple or more complex as needed. This topic describes the process of setting up the components of a welcome campaign that thanks new customers for joining a loyalty program.

The video below walks through the process of creating a selection rule, audience, and interaction for the Welcome campaign.

Prerequisites

This example will walk through the process of creating a selection rule, audience, and interaction for the Welcome campaign. Additionally, you will need to create an offer to use in the campaign. Learn more about creating an offer.

Step 1: Create the selection rule

The first step in creating a simple Welcome campaign is to create the selection rule. For more detailed steps on creating selection rules, check out our documentation.

To create the selection rule:

  1. From the RPI home page, go to the quick access menu and select Audience > Rules.

  2. Choose Standard Selection Rule.

  3. Search for the attribute using the file search to the right of the toolbar.

  4. Drag the attribute you want to use from the file search onto the workspace. This prompts the Choose Criterion Type popup to appear.

  5. Select Compare to List.

  6. Choose the value(s) you want to include in your criterion by choosing the value from the list on the left, and selecting Add.

  7. Select Finish.

  8. Repeat steps 3-7 for however many criteria you need for your rule.

By default:

  • Criteria are set to “Include” the value(s) you chose. You can change this to “Exclude” by selecting the word Include.

  • When using multiple criteria, they are connected by “AND” logic. You can toggle this to “OR” by selecting the word AND.

  1. Select the default name “New Selection Rule*” and enter a unique name for the rule.

  2. Select the Save button from the toolbar to save the rule.

Step 2: Create the audience

The next step in creating our Welcome campaign is to create the audience. This example describes a basic, single block audience. For more detailed steps on creating an audience, check out our documentation.

To create the audience:

  1. From the RPI home page, go to the quick access menu and select Audience > Audiences > Create New Audience.

  2. Choose SQL Audience. The Audience Properties pane appears. For the purposes of this example, you can leave the properties set to their defaults and select the X to close the window.

  3. From the Audience Blocks menu, drag the Filter block onto the workspace.

  4. Select the Selection Rule field to browse for a selection rule.

  5. Choose the selection rule you made in the previous step.

  6. Select Show Audience-Level Metadata (represented by the tag with a person icon) from the toolbar.

  7. Enter the Campaign Code into the corresponding field. You may also enter any additional metadata you’d like to include at this time.

  8. Select Done.

  9. Select the default name “New Audience*” and enter a unique name for the audience.

  10. Select the Save button from the toolbar to save the audience.

Step 3: Create the interaction

The final step in creating this simple Welcome campaign is to build the interaction. For more detailed steps on creating an interaction, check out our documentation.

To create the interaction:

Add a trigger

  1. From the RPI home page, go to the quick access menu and select Orchestration > Interactions > Create New Interaction.

  2. Choose Empty Interaction.

  3. From the Workflow Controls menu to the right of the workspace, drag the Manual trigger onto the workspace.

Add a target

  1. From the Targeting menu, drag Interactive Activity over to the Manual trigger to create a connection between the two.

  2. Open the Configuration Panel for the Interactive Activity.

  3. For the Audience field, choose the audience that you made in the previous step.

  4. Under Recurrence Options, set the recurrence for however often you’d like the campaign to run.

  5. Select Done.

Add an offer

You'll need to create an offer to use in the campaign. Learn more about creating an offer.

  1. From the Fulfillment menu, drag Offer over to Interactive Activity to create a connection between the two.

  2. Select the Offer icon and choose Show Configuration Panel.

  3. On the General tab, under Offer, select the offer you’d like to use.

  4. Under Channels, select Configure.

  5. Choose Add Channel.

  6. From the Channel dropdown, select the channel you’d like to use to send the offer.

  7. Select Done and then Done again.

Finalize the interaction

  1. Select the default name “New Interaction*” and enter a unique name for the interaction.

  2. Select the Save button from the toolbar to save the interaction.

  3. To activate the interaction:

    • Test: to run a test with the interaction, choose Activate in Test from the toolbar.

    • Production: when you’re ready to start the campaign, choose Activate in Production from the toolbar.
