Using global selection rules
Overview
Global selection rules are simple or universal selection rules that can be used in multiple campaigns. Using global selection rules saves you time when creating audiences, so that you don’t need to create a new rule every time if someone else has already made one. This topic describes how to create and modify global selection rules.
The video below walks through Redpoint’s best practices on using global selection rules.
Creating a global selection rule
Global selection rules are made the same way as any standard selection rule, but how you name it and where you save it are important so that the rule is easy to find for reuse.
To create a global selection rule:
In the rule designer, create a standard selection rule.
Give the rule a name that makes it easily identifiable at a glance. For example, a selection rule that targets 18-29 year olds could be named “Age is 18-29”.
Save the rule to a folder designated to global selection rules. You can create a new folder for this purpose at any time.
Modifying a global rule
Rules designated as global rules may be in use in multiple campaigns. For this reason, global rules should not be modified. Modifying a global rule will change the rule across any campaign where the rule is in use.
To find the campaigns where a global rule is in use:
In the rule designer, select the three-dot action menu near the save button.
Workspace must contain at least one criterion.
Choose View File Options (the file icon) > View File Information.
Go to the Usage tab. All locations where the rule is in use will show in list form.
If you want to make changes to an existing global rule, rename the rule and save as to create a new rule.
