Using templates and copy/paste in Audiences and Interactions
Overview
Utilizing the template and copy/paste functionalities makes creating audiences and interactions quick and easy. The video below walks through creating a template, along with tips for using them. It also includes a demo of using the copy/paste function with elements of an interaction.
Creating a template
You can create a template out of any existing audience or interaction. It’s as simple as saving the audience or interaction as a template file type, instead of a standard audience or interaction file type.
Redpoint best practice is “less is more” when it comes to templates. Instead of creating tons of templates, be mindful to create fewer templates that have a high reusability rate.
To save an audience or interaction as a template:
Create an audience or interaction.
From the toolbar, select the save button with the “T” icon. This saves the current audience or interaction as a template.
We recommend saving your templates in a designated folder to easily keep track of them.
Give your template a descriptive name.
Select Save.
Using templates to create an audience or interaction
There are two easy ways to use a template to create a new audience or interaction.
From the designer home page
To create a new audience or interaction from a template:
Open the Audience Designer or Interaction Designer.
On the home page, go to the Create New From Template tab.
Select a template. The template opens as a standard audience or interaction file type.
Customize your audience or interaction.
Choose Save from the toolbar.
Your audience or interaction will save as a standard file type, not a template.
You can tell the difference between a standard file type and a template in the File System by the icon. Templates will have a “T” for template on the file icon.
From the File System
To create a new audience or interaction from a template:
Open the File System.
Locate the template file you want to use.
Right-click on the template and select Create New [Audience/Interaction] From Template.
If you open the template file from the File System, you are opening the template, not a new audience/interaction. Any changes you make will be saved to the template, not a new audience/interaction.
Using copy/paste
Rather than creating a template, if you wish to reuse specific elements from audiences or interactions, you can copy an element and then paste it into a different audience/interaction.
To copy and paste an element:
In an audience or interaction, right-click on a single element (such as an audience block or offer) or highlight multiple elements and select Copy.
Right-click on the workspace of an audience or interaction and choose Paste.
If you paste multiple elements onto a workspace, you’ll need to highlight them again in order to move them around the workspace.
